Sometimes a Science Fiction tale extrapolates known science as the basis of its story. More often lately, it's a plot device in service of the story. In some cases, you could substitute Magic for Science and not change things much! Where does this work and where does it not work? Is the Science Fiction genre getting "dumbed down" or finding a new audience?
