ICON 40 ► Science Fiction/Fantasy & Horror Convention

Cedar Rapids DoubleTree Hotel, 350 1st Ave, NE.

Open to all fans of all forms of science fiction, fantasy and horror, whether from books, TV shows, magazines, comics, or films. Be sure to check out a special treat below called Dreamcon ► a writer's workshop for students held on Friday afternoon, as listed below. It’s a rare opportunity for them to meet and work with professional writers from all over the country.


Thursday, Oct 15 ► 6:30 - 8 PM - Book signing at Barnes and Noble in Cedar Rapids:

A chance to meet many of our guests (Open to the public)


Friday, Oct 16 ► 6 PM to Sunday, Oct 18 at 4 PM - ICON

Panels, workshops, discussions, writer's workshops, an art show, painting and drawing events, an art auction, a dealer's room, hall costumes, a Masquerade, a dance, filk singing, science and technology demonstrations, Gaming, and parties.

Registration:

Adults (13 and older) ► $45 before October 1st, $65 afterwards

Children 7-12 ► $25 before October 1st, $35 afterwards (Children under 7, free)

Benefactor ► $100 flat

Paradise ICON Workshop ► $100 flat (special registration required, limited space).  Check the website for more details on eligibility before registering.

DreamCon Workshop ► $15 flat (Friday DreamCon registration only for H.S. and College students, limited space; can be upgraded to full ICON weekend membership for difference in membership registration).  Check the website for more details on registering/signing up.

Writer's Workshop ► no additional fee beyond ICON membership, but limited space available.  Check the website for more details about this workshop and its requirements.


Friday, Oct 16 ► 1-5 PM - Dreamcon III: A writer's workshop for High School and College students:

They will have an opportunity to meet and work with at least a dozen people who write and edit, plus an agent who works in the genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror.
